About Sociology

 Department of Sociology was established in the year 1975. Sri Tileswar Pathak was the founder faculty member of the departmentMr. Anil Kr. Bora joined the department in later period. Sri Anil Kr. Bora became the Vice-Principal and Principal-in-Charge of the College. Ms. Ritika Boruah secured 1st Class 1st position in Political Science Major in BA final examination from this department in 2015. Many students from this department excel in various fields of life.

 

Eligibility for Admission : For Major course, minimum 45% in aggregate and 50% marks in Sociology in HS Examination.

 

Programme Specific Outcome (PSO)

From the degree level sociology courses a student not only gain skills that are marketable just in sociology, but for many jobs in other fields. The skills developed in a sociology degree are applicable to many areas of work. It makes students rational and measured decisions in the interest of fairness as it improved critical faculties, sociology occasionally offers the chance of studying abroad instilling skills of multi-culturalism in students. After completing the B.A.in sociology there can be open many avenues for the students like research institutes, educational institutions, hospitals, private clinics, social service, criminal justice, media, law, survey and polling organizations along with the higher studies in this subject.

Most importantly studying sociology in degree level will give a better understanding of mankind. From the whole syllabus of sociology in B.A. help to gain a greater understanding of the complex, confusing and yet simple nature of mankind and often make more rational in different fields. One of the most implications is that the course is very inclusive which we can suppose is appropriate for a subject which is based on studying different human societies. The combination of sociology with another fields or course is another potential aspect for students for their future scope, it is beneficial for them. Some important outcomes of this program are given below:

1.      Sociology in degree level gives the basic understanding of society and culture.

2.      It provides the theoretical and methodological perspectives of studying Indian society.

8.      It also helps the students to know the concept of development, agencies of development and Indian experience development.

9.      The course also enables the students to know the demographic pattern of North East region and the social institutions of different tribal groups.

10.  The course has the scope to give a better understanding of social Social Psychology.

11.  From this course the students can gather knowledge on globalization, industrialization, science and technology and health and hospital management.
